How to Join DOB Seattle

In short, simple steps:

  1. Fill out the below membership application!

  2. If approved, you will be invited to a Cohort (in August or February, whichever is sooner) where you will introduce yourself to the club and explain why you believe you are a good fit for the club.

  3. The membership will enter a closed session and will make a decision on whether or not you will be accepted as a prospect.

  4. If accepted, you will:

    1. Sign the necessary paperwork

    2. Pay the membership fee of $30

    3. Receive a “Prospect” patch to officiate your joining of the club.

    4. Begin your 6 month qualifying period.

  5. At the end of your 6 month qualifying period, the Board will vote to make you a Patched Member. If you have not met all your requirements within the 6 month qualifying period, you will be disqualified and asked to leave the club. This does not mean you can’t apply again.

    Expectations of a Prospect

Over your 6 month qualifying period, you must meet the below requirements (per our club Bylaws and Policies & Procedures):

  1. Attend at least 3 regular membership meetings and not be more than 30 minutes late without notification.

  2. Attend at least 3 SEADOBMC sanctioned activities.

  3. Complete at least 15 hours of community service within your qualifying period (30 is required for the full year). Hours must be completed by July 15th of each year. February class of prospects will be required to meet half their expected

    hours by this date.

  4. You must interact well with your assigned mentor, other Prospects, Patched members, and the Board.

  5. If you are a rider and have not ridden at least 2k miles each year for the last 3 consecutive years, you must…

    1. Attend a motorcycle safety course.

    2. Attend at least 2 sanctioned SEADOBMC rides with at least 2 active patch holders. Your mentor must be present at at least one of the rides.

  6. If you are a non-rider, you must…

    1. Participate as a passenger or as a support vehicle driver for 2 sanctioned SEADOBMC rides with at least 2 active patch holders.

Prospect status is neither continuous nor retroactive. Prospects cannot vote on club matters or participate in Special Meetings. This does not disqualify you from applying again for the next cohort.

FAQ’s

What does Dykes on Bikes® do?

DOB is all about community! We ride together to promote visibility, equity, and inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. We participate in the Pride Events of various cities, as well as attend fundraisers, rides, and events as a club. Whether it be an organized group ride, a moto camping trip, or a good old fashioned garage party, we use our voices and platforms to promote queer joy and advocacy.

Who can join Seattle Dykes on Bikes®?

DOB is open to anyone that identifies as a womxn. We accept riders of all skill levels and offer memberships for non-riders and allies as well. We ask that our riding members have proof of insurance, a valid drivers license, and be on the path to obtaining an endorsement.

What is required of me if I join Seattle DOB?

The most important commitment of DOB members is an open mind and an open heart! We collect a nominal dues fee each year that covers the cost of running the club. We provide you with a Dykes on Bikes® patch, as well as a Seattle Dykes on Bikes® local membership patch. There are member meetings (typically bi-monthly) where attendance is encouraged. We also encourage our members to volunteer with us in the community through our organized group volunteer endeavors.

Can I join Seattle DOB if I don’t ride?

Absolutely! We offer ally memberships which allow other-abled and non-riding queer folks and our allies access to all the benefits, fun, organized advocacy, and camaraderie of Seattle Dykes on Bikes®. There are also opportunities to lend a helping hand by supporting DOB through contributions that help riders cover membership dues.
